Minimize teacher gaps

Last updated: May 18, 2026

You can control gaps in teacher schedules in two ways: with a global rule that applies to everyone, or with individual constraints for specific teachers.

Global rule: minimize teacher gaps

In Timetable constraints, activate Minimize teachers gaps. When this rule is active, we'll try to reduce the total number of gaps across all teachers, balancing the reduction between them. This rule doesn't guarantee zero gaps—it works as a soft preference. You can adjust the rule's importance to control how strongly gap reduction is prioritized relative to other rules.

Individual constraints per teacher

On the teacher's edit page, in the Constraints section, you can set:

Individual constraints take priority over the global rule for the teachers where they are set.

Our recommendation

Start with the global rule and add individual constraints only where strictly necessary, as they reduce the scheduler's flexibility.
